Staging A Miracle (SAM)

Staging A Miracle was founded in 2008. The First United Methodist Church of Sacramento, in collaboration with community volunteers, professional artists, performers and musicians, provides classes encompassing a wide range of visual and performing arts genres.

SAM currently includes a summer visual and performing arts instructional series, which culminates in a musical theater performance and a gallery-style art showing. Our main summer session is supplemented with one-day events such as December's SAMta's Workshop, in which participants can reconnect as an artistic community and create one-day, take-home projects.

Participants in similar hands-on art programs throughout the nation have demonstrated measurable long-term benefits such as improved academic success, greater personal resources for maintaining a positive self-image, empowerment to strive for higher educational and personal goals, and stronger bonds to both family and community.

"I do not want art for a few, any more than education for a few, or freedom for a few."

                                      — William Morris
